Flying Sun FAQ
We’ve received many questions about the new Flying Sun 500 and 1000. We’ll update this FAQ as we have more questions and answers for them.
Can dealers resell the Flying Sun?
- Yes! Reach out to your favorite Freefly Authorized reseller to get a quote.
When will my pre-order ship?
- We plan to ship the first batch the last week each month starting in late June 2025.
Can I only buy the lights (or tether) if I already own a Freefly aircraft?
- No. For now, we’re only selling complete kits which include the aircraft, light, and tether.
How long can I fly before landing?
- 7 days! Just keep your generator topped off.
How long will the LEDs last?
- Our standard 1-year warranty covers this product. We expect these lights to last at least 5 years.
What kind of generator do you recommend?
- Any generator that can produce 5+kW at 240V.
Can I adjust the light direction or beam focus?
- While on the ground, you can adjust light direction. You cannot currently adjust the beam focus.
Can the lights change color or provide IR illumination?
- No
Can I use a camera with this system?
- Yes, please see the respective payload capacity for each variant of Flying Sun.
Does it have a parachute?
- No, please reach out to our friends at Drone Rescue Systems for their ASTM certified parachute solutions.
What happens if the tether stops working?
- The onboard battery will safely power the aircraft for several minutes and initiate an automated landing based on user configurable preferences.
Do you have a strobe light that meets the 3SM visibility requirement for Part 107 Night Operations?
- No, there are several inexpensive options online that can easily be added.
Does an operator need a Part 107 to use this product in the U.S.A.?
- Yes, most operators will still require a Part 107 certificate even with the aircraft actively tethered.
